About Me

Hello, I'm Carlos Diaz.
I enjoy challenges while I am passionate about all work I do. I love nature, science, traveling, kayaking, bush-walking, computers, filming, writing, translating, subtitling, editing, broadcasting, chess and wood-turning, while keeping up-to-date with the amazing evolution of technology.

I also enjoy meeting wise and creative people everywhere I go.

- I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I am a grandson of Italian and Spanish migrants to the South American continent. I must confess that I am a rare multi-skilled and versatile person that cannot easily be found. I grew-up in different cities in Argentina where I attended private colleges that provided me with a very solid educational and general cultural background. I've finished my last 2 years of high school where he was introduced to the wonders of the English language, journalism and writing. Years later, I moved to Rosario city and studied for two more years at the Technical College in order to pursue Cabinet making and Electrical trades -both- successfully completed. Since my youth while at Primary school, I've studied English as a 2nd.language and in 1985-86 I studied Advanced English at the ARICANA college in Rosario city.

- Since the age of 18 I've started to work as an electrician assistant whilst learning my trade in construction sites. Later, I obtained my full license as an Electrician contractor (Class 'A' - Up to 15 Kv) and started to work for several building companies, including carpentry for interior designs.

- From 1977 to 1981, being 21 year old, I had the privilege to work at the Technical Services of the National Gas Co. (former 'Gas del Estado' - now 'Litoral Gas'), the 'backbone' technical office of the gas national network company of the city which is connected to the entire country-wide network too. Thus, I had the chance to develop more experience from a young age, not just in the technical field, but also in administration, technical drafting, tenders, plans inspection, ISO & IRAM compliance, high-risk ignition procedures, flame/ spark & detonation arresters, fire extinguish procedures, public safety, UHF radio-contact with police, ambulance, fire brigade, gas leak emergency crews, traffic, shut-down procedures & sabotage control. I also dealt with contractors, stakeholders and management at the same time. In fact, since very young age working at the Technical Division headquarters with other technical colleagues, engineers and safety specialists, I was constantly trained in all sorts of tasks that normally are done by separate individuals or specialized technicians in determined areas.

- In 1981, I resigned from the National Gas Co. to open my own business ('DIDELCA') in partnership with a friend to work for various architectural & interior designing firms in Rosario city. With my partner, I've done contract work in residential and multi-storey developments. Soon after, whilst being co-manager I was also a foreperson of 5 people, working in general carpentry / joinery, interior refurbishments, including electrical: conduits, mains, general switch boxes, cabling, connections, intercoms, lighting and water pumps servo-systems for high-rise units for almost 4 years.

- With all my qualifications, skills and experience gained, I started to research the possibility of moving with my family overseas. Officers from the Australian Embassy in Argentina verified all my skills, work experience and qualifications, and granted me the "Skilled-Permanent Resident Visa" with my family. Thus, I had the chance to immediately start working on nothing less than the largest and most prestigious building in Australia: the New Parliament House in Canberra which I was informed by friends that was under construction. I didn't hesitate to flight straight away to the ACT where in fact, soon after I started to work there.

- Thus, in September, 1986, I migrated to Australia with my wife Griselda Albertelli and son Gustavo with intention of permanent residence. Since then, we love and enjoy living in this wonderful land with its people.

"You can't cross a sea by merely staring into the water"
- Rabindranath Tagore -

- Soon after our arrival to this new continent, I started working as a cabinetmaker / joiner at the New Parliament House building in Canberra, the Australian Capital until its full completion.
- In 1988 our daughter Natalia was born in Canberra, ACT.
- In 1990, I became an Australian Citizen and we all now hold Australian Passports as well.
